Three people lynched in Chalco, including a teenager

Two adults and a teenager died after being lynched in the municipality of Chalco, in the State of Mexico (Edomex).
The Edomex prosecutor’s office reported that, according to the first proceedings, the men of 17, 21 and 22 years old could be victims of lynching when they were accused of alleged robberies committed in the area.

“Testimonies indicate that several people attacked the victims in retaliation for possible robberies,” according to the investigation folder.
The events occurred between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday, November 20.
From 2015 to 2018, at least 561 people were victims of lynching in Mexico (121 died and 440 people were released or rescued), according to the Special Report on the problem of lynchings in the national territory, of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the Institute of Social Research of the UNAM.

Among lynching victims, 523 were men and 38 women.
As for the lynching cases reviewed in that period, 76% were concentrated in five states: Puebla, the State of Mexico, Tabasco, Mexico City and Hidalgo.
According to this investigation, there is no official data on these types of cases and the figures in the report on lynchings come from media reports, so it is possible that the real numbers of cases and victims are higher.
