President Boric highlights constitutional agreement: “Chile cannot continue waiting”

President Gabriel Boric referred to the agreement reached by the political parties with parliamentary representation to continue with the constituent process.
After meeting with the presidents of the Senate, Álvaro Elizalde, and of the Chamber of Deputies, Vlado Mirosevic, in La Moneda, the President stressed that after “several weeks of talks, intense, rough at times, the political forces have reached an agreement that has returned to the country the possibility of having a new Constitution that projects us into the future.”
“We have taken a necessary and I hope decisive step to advance in a new social pact for a better democracy, more liberators, better social rights,” he added.
In that sense, he emphasized that “Chile cannot continue waiting,” insisting on what he has said previously, regarding that “once again, despite the difficulties, we have decided to solve the problems of democracy with more democracy and not with less.”
“I value the commitment of all those who participated in this effort to put the common good and the interest of the country first, where they had to give in to their ideal requests,” the president said.
In that sense, he said that as a government they will maintain a role of collaboration and facilitation of the process, emphasizing that “the responsibility to realize it lies with the parliamentarians.”
“The people of Chile have given us a second chance and we have a duty to live up to it, learning from recent experiences,” he said.

“I am sure that in Congress the sense of responsibility and dedication and generosity will prevail to honor democracy, to give us a new legitimate Constitution, that the small fights are put aside,” he closed.
