The head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that the person allegedly responsible for shooting journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva was arrested on December 15, 2022.
“This is the person who was a co-pilot on the motorcycle on the day of the attack. Our commitment is to end impunity,” he wrote on Twitter.
According to the head of government, the arrest was made in Michoacán.

Hours earlier, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that it arrested four other people involved in the attack suffered by the journalist.
The arrests were made after two searches in Chalco and Los Reyes, in the State of Mexico.
“Vehicles, cell phones, weapons and possible drugs were seized. 4 people were arrested,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

With these new arrests, there are 16 people arrested and involved in the case.
Just this January 11, the authorities announced the arrest of 11 people and revealed that the aggressors of the communicator were following him for 5 days.
Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch indicated that the people apprehended would be part of a criminal cell, led by Pool Pedro “N”, which is dedicated to carrying out homicides, extortion of merchants and drug dealing.
The official does not rule out that they are alleged members of another criminal cell linked to a cartel, but for now they are only identified as a local cell that operates in Mexico City and State of Mexico.

On December 15, the van carrying journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva was shot near his home in the Florida neighborhood, south of Mexico City.
“Someone, judging by what happened, by what the authority, the Public Ministry, the experts, told me, wanted to kill me last night,” Gomez Leyva said then.
Although dozens of detainees have already been detained, the authorities have not explained the reasons why the journalist was attacked.
