Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve: the fire is “controlled” but cooling tasks continue

The igneous focus of the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is “totally controlled”, although the cooling and prevention tasks persist, since “due to the heat and drought there is always the risk of new foci proliferating”, officially reported today. Authorities of the Secretariat of Environment of CABA explained that although the fire is controlled, actions must be developed that “consist mainly of cooling tasks and visual inspection to detect, check and prevent the fire from spreading again.” For their part, volunteer firefighters from the neighborhood of San Telmo indicated to Telam that the troops are working at the site “to carry out ash guard and cooling tasks.” According to the inspections carried out by the fire team of the City of Buenos Aires, a “normal panorama” was recorded, although tours of the affected areas continued “to extinguish some active remains”. The inspections were carried out with air support, especially in the area of the Camino de los Plumerillos, Camino de los Lagartos and Camino del Medio of the Ecological Reserve. In turn, a crew of City Firefighters fed by tanker unit, worked during this Monday in the Camino del Medio, where it attacked with two lines of 38 millimeters, in order to carry out cooling tasks and extinguishing small foci, according to sources of the Police of the City of Buenos Aires. On the other hand, in the Camino de los Lagartos operated two other firefighters with a line of attack each, both fed by another tanker unit. This afternoon, the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, toured the Reserve and recognized “the commitment and professionalism” with which all the forces of the emergency system worked together to fight the fires that since last week affected the green riverside lung of the City, added the official statement. Larreta thanked the work of the personnel of the Reserve, Firefighters and Police of the City, Volunteer Firefighters, Forest Fire Brigades, the SAME and Civil Defense along with Firefighters of the Federal Police.
