“The Cry of the Butterflies” arrives, the series that narrates the life and death of the Mirabal sisters

This coming March 8 comes to Star + the historical drama “The Cry of the Butterflies”, the series composed of 13 episodes that narrates the life and death of the Mirabal sisters in the hands of the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. Within the framework of the commemorations for International Women’s Day. The seireP starring Dominican actress Sandy Hernández (Minerva Mirabal), Spanish actress Susana Abaitua (Arantxa Oyamburu), Cuban actor Luis Alberto García (Rafael Leónidas Trujillo) and Spanish actress Belén Rueda (Pilar Macías), and made by Pampa Films/Gloriamundi Producciones, the new fiction follows the story of Minerva Mirabal, the Dominican lawyer and activist murdered along with her sisters, by order of dictator Rafael Trujillo on November 25, 1960. After the murder, the Mirabal sisters became a symbol of the fight against gender violence around the world and, since 1999, every November 25 their tragic death is commemorated with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, urging governments, international organizations and non-governmental organizations to convene activities aimed at making the problem visible and demanding policies for its eradication in all countries. Recorded in different locations in Colombia and with a meticulous reconstruction of the era, the series addresses problems of great current relevance such as gender violence, the vindication of women, female empowerment, political corruption and abuse of power, through a powerful story that will move the audience and invite them to reflect. More than six decades after their tragic death, the story of the Mirabal sisters continues to be valid and, through the series, now reaches new generations contributing through the story to make visible, problematize and reflect on these issues. El grito de las mariposas” was created by Juan Pablo Buscarini and directed by Mariano Hueter, Leandro Ipiña and Inés París.  The cast of the series is completed by Guillermo Toledo (Asier Oyamburu), Mercedes Sampietro (Arantxa Oyamburu in 1999), Héctor Noas (Petán Trujillo), Maridalia Hernández (Doña Chea Mirabal), Jairo Camargo (Enrique Mirabal), Essined Aponte (Dede Mirabal), Alina Robert (Patria Mirabal) and Camila Issa (María Teresa Mirabal).
