Experts put chips to Mauricio Muñoz (PS) in the CNTV and set as the “great challenge” the electoral strip

As of April 1, the stage of Mauricio Muñoz, a lawyer with no experience in television, begins as president of the National Television Council (CNTV), after the resignation of Faride Zerán.
Muñoz will assume the reins of a CNTV convulsed after the departure of Faride Zerán, who resigned from office on March 6 after several frictions with the rest of the directors. “I decided to submit my resignation because under current conditions my contribution to the body is very limited,” he said. For this reason, Muñoz, PS close to President Paulina Vodanovic and Álvaro Elizalde, arrives with the mission of once again building bridges of consensus among the entire council.

In addition, in the purely technical field of the CNTV, it will have the responsibility of leading it at a time marked by a new constituent process, so it will have to make decisions on the television broadcast of the new proposal and the candidates who want to integrate the Constitutional Council.
One of those who will have to dialogue with Muñoz will be the militant of the Broad Front, Pablo Vidal, president of the National Television Association (Anatel), who in conversation with El Mostrador said that from Anatel, they maintained good relations “both with the Council and with the outgoing president, Faride Zerán,” and that they expect the same tone with Muñoz.
Pablo Vidal, Anatel
“We hope to continue in the same spirit and spirit of good relationship with the Council. We hope to continue working with Mauricio Muñoz and the rest of the members of the Council -both with the directors and with the technical teams of the CNTV-, in order to advance in the new challenges of television in Chile, “he added.
Among the challenges, he states that it is “interesting to observe how today traditional media are in a complicated moment, regarding the irruption of digital platforms, which are completely deregulated, which generates a series of problems from the social point of view and that must be worked on. Therefore, we have challenges that are of interest, both on the part of the television channels, and of the State through the CNTV.”
“Mauricio (Muñoz) has an experience in the public sphere that is vast, with steps through different agencies, including the General Secretariat of Government (SEGEGOB), where he had to relate to both the Council and the TV channels. Therefore, and although it may not be a specific experience in the field, I certainly believe that he has the skills and abilities to be able to lead an organization that, in addition, has technical teams of vast experience and knowledge in the operation of television and in the regulation that governs us and a Council that also has that capacity, so we will have to wait from Mauritius what its definitions are, but at least I have no reason to believe that it will have difficulties. On the contrary, I think he can do a good job,” added Pablo Vidal.
Another who commented on Muñoz’s arrival is CNTV advisor Francisco Cruz: “Muñoz knows the State in its various dimensions and had responsibilities in the governments of former Presidents Lagos and Bachelet. A person who has a genetic code of Concertación and New Majority to build agreements, read environments and lead collective wills, which is key today in the CNTV, especially in a critical year due to the constitutional process in which the CNTV has a role in the electoral strip.”

Paulina Vodanovic (PS): “Mauricio Muñoz will fulfill with excellence the role of president of the CNTV”
One of those close to the new president of the CNTV is the president of the Socialist Party (PS), Paulina Vodanovic, who assured that Muñoz will fulfill with excellence and “without a doubt” his new role.
“Mauricio Muñoz is an excellent lawyer, with a long public career and who worked in Segegob, so he will undoubtedly fulfill with excellence the sun of president of the CNTV,” said Vodanovic.
“It is also of a conciliatory nature, therefore, it will know how to resolve the situations that may arise in the Council. I have received good comments from the current councilors and I know that they will focus on important issues, with high vision, “complemented the socialist helmsman.
Vodanovic said that “freedom of expression, the rights of citizens and the role of TV, currently, are issues of relevance and public interest, not only conjunctural, but also in the constitutional discussion.”
