Mauricio Macri: “I will not be a candidate in the next elections”

“Dear Argentines, I share with all of you the certainty that today’s Argentina is in a difficult state to recognize. We are adrift, without leadership, isolated from the world, alone” begins the video in which Mauricio Macri announced that he will not be a candidate in the next elections. Macri reflects that many people want him to return to work in the direction that began in 2015 and that “sadly ended in 2019.” The former president points out that one of the problems that the country has is that many elect paternalistic leaders that, according to him, led to discouraging Argentines from assuming their own responsibility. Then, Mauricio Macri highlights the importance of teamwork and mentions the example of the Argentine team for having been champion demonstrating those values.  This is how minutes before the video ends the former president states: “I will not be a candidate in the next elections. I do so convinced that we must enlarge the political space for change that we initiated.” Patricia Bullrich, commented on her social networks about Mauricio Macri’s decision: “Even though he can be president again, he has prioritized the interests of our country before his own, as very few leaders have done in Argentine history.”
