Video | We spoke with Chris Hemsworth and Sam Hargrave for the premiere of “Extraction 2.”

When you think you’ve seen Chris Hemsworth in action, after fighting galactic supervillains in “Thor”, going to war in “Troop of Heroes” or protecting the earth in “Men in Black”, he surprises again with covert operations and extreme missions in “Extraction 2”, the new installment directed by Sam Hargrave that is already available on Netflix. Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) returns with another deadly task: getting the family of a ruthless Georgia gangster out of jail. That translates into two hours of action characterized by the use of sequence shots – that is, scenes without cuts – that manage to transmit the tension and adrenaline to the viewer in each combat. Hemsworth and Hargrave traveled to São Paulo, Brazil, to present the film at “Tudum,” a global Netflix event for fans. From Filo.news we were present and spoke exclusively with them to know how they worked the scenes, their influences in action cinema and the keys in the construction of the character. “Tyler, nine months ago you were dead, you survived, but you fought your way back… you just have to figure out why,” her teammate, played by Golshifteh Farahani, tells her at the start of the new film. While struggling with his past and his own demons, the protagonist offers extreme action scenes where he faces dangerous and real adventures. We are talking about scenes that are not made with special effects, such as the moment when Tyler fights on top of a moving train, with a helicopter flying ahead, or when he fights on fire. Yes, you read that right: he fights the enemy in a prison yard with his arm on fire. “It wasn’t computer-generated fire. And he had to do it again and again. “We had a lot of different jackets prepared for him. It was pretty incredible to watch,” the director had told Empire.Photo: Courtesy of the pressSpeaking to Filo.news, Hemsworth said: “The fire was a little intimidating at first, but it was worth it. The most challenging scene for me was that whole sequence in the prison yard. There were 300 or 400 actors involved in the funds, there were no multiple cameras, everything had to be perfect and fluid. The bar was higher in terms of obstacles, challenge and risk, but the reward was much better.” To achieve this, the director told this media that he was working on the scenes for months: “If you do not have a camera with multiple coverage you have to do it well, because what you record is what the audience will see. It took a lot of rehearsal with all the areas, it wasn’t just the camera and the actors… The special effects created some snow when it wasn’t really snowing, the lighting department, art, makeup, costumes, everyone had to work very closely and communicate so that everything went well and you could know how to have that immersive experience.” The step from superhero to mercenaryPhoto: Courtesy of the pressIt’s not the first time Chris has acted under Sam’s direction. Of course, they had already worked together on “Extraction 1”, but the origins of their relationship go back to the Avengers saga. We all know that Hemsworth played Thor, the God of Thunder in Norse mythology; although he did not have the same visibility, Sam’s work was key in the Marvel universe: he was the stunt coordinator of the memorable scenes of “Infinity World” and “Endgame.” We met there and a wonderful friendship was created, a lot of trust,” recalls the Australian actor. Hargrave also came into contact with brothers directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who produced the “Extraction” films with their company AGBO. In addition, Joe was in charge of the script, based on the graphic novel “City” by Ande Parks.Photo: Courtesy of the pressFor all that, Chris trusts Sam’s work and ideas: “He asked me to do scenes in this film that can be dangerous, but I know he’s taking every measure to make sure it’s the safest thing to do. There’s always risk involved, but I think that’s also what the audience appreciates. They know that the intensity of the risk is real, but behind it there is a great trust and solid friendship.” In parallel, Hemsworth highlighted one of the keys behind the construction and work in all his characters: meditation. “It’s the most effective way to have a positive outcome, you come to things without carrying the baggage of the past and the kind of complications, the questions and doubts, and so on… as long as I can find, especially filming in a movie Like this, where it’s chaotic, having a little bit of solitude, having a little peace and quiet and quieting your mind, I can creatively have more depth and openness to other options and possibilities, more ideas start to emerge freely without trying to force them.” During Tudum, the event that took place last weekend in Brazil, the star of “Extraction” met Arnold Schwarzenegger, who presented his recent and successful series “Fubar” and announced its second season. That encounter was captured in an image that the “Terminator” actor shared on his social networks, and that drove fans crazy. You can read more here. It is that behind the streaming success of the new Netflix action film and any current release of the genre, it is important to honor and recognize the great references that paved the way and were a guide for future generations of artists and filmmakers. Hargrave confessed: “I grew up watching how the Rambo movies, the Schwarzenegger movies, are all very inspiring. I watched Hong Kong action cinema a lot, I love Jackie Chan’s films and the way they use their physical expression of the human body to tell a story, I think that influenced my perspective as a director a lot.” Hemsworth agreed and highlighted contemporary sagas such as “Mission Impossible” or “John Wick”: “I think it’s about pushing each other, getting inspired and trying to create something unique and fresh, but you have to stay humble in the process, if you come thinking that you have everything solved, there is no doubt that you are going to limit yourself to what can be and what you can expand. ” closed the actor. “Extraction 2” is now available to watch on Netflix.
