Parking lots must be responsible for damage to vehicles: Victor Zurita

The legislator presented an initiative to reform the Civil Code of the State in order to establish the responsibility of public parking service providers in this matter.
Morelia, Mich. – Public parking service providers are obliged to respond for total or partial theft and damage to vehicles under their care, said Deputy Víctor Zurita Ortiz, member of the Morena Parliamentary Group in the LXXV Legislature of the State Congress.
The legislator along with Deputy Samanta Flores, Monica Valdez, Belinda Hurtado, Mayela Salas, Andrea Villanueva and Ernesto Núñez, presented an initiative to reform the Civil Code of the State in order to establish the responsibility of public parking service providers in the matter, according to a statement.
“Those of us who drive cars on many occasions are forced to resort to public parking lots that proliferate every day in anarchy and lack of regulation by municipal authorities. When we enter any of these establishments we usually do it quickly, which is why most of the time we do not review the rates, nor the conditions in which the service is provided. ”
Víctor Zurita pointed out that most of these parking lots take advantage of the lack of regulation or the complicity of the municipal authorities, to make excessive charges and disclaim responsibilities in case of total or partial theft of the vehicles under their care, or the damages that they could suffer while they are in their facilities.
“In the specific case of this capital city, going to the center has become a luxury within the reach of a few, many times we spend more parking than gasoline, but the problem does not end there, the most serious thing is when we return to pick up our unit and we realize that it was stolen or suffered some damage in the parking lot where we left it, The owners tell us they won’t be held responsible.”

He added that normally the justification for evading responsibility is that on some wall of the establishment or on the ticket itself they place the classic legend: “the company is not responsible for total or partial theft of the unit, nor for the damages suffered inside the establishment”, a situation that places users in a very unfavorable condition, Since the large amount of money charged for the service, which does not provide any guarantee, is worthless, it only serves to make up for the inability of the authorities to generate safe parking spaces.
