Elections 2023: San Juan elects governor and defines the successor of Uñac

The electoral calendar continues its course and this Sunday, July 2, has its first stop of the month in San Juan, where more than 600,000 citizens will have to choose their next governor and vice president. It should be remembered that the people of San Juan had gone to the polls on May 14 to vote for legislators, mayors and councilors, while the election of the highest provincial authority had been suspended by a ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice, which challenged the candidacy of current President Sergio Uñac, who will not be able to compete for a third term in office. In San Juan, the new Open Democratic Participation System (SIPAD) will be applied, similar to the Law of Slogans, which establishes the taxation of candidates from the same space to whoever wins the internal election. With this panorama, ten formulas are the candidates for governor who will seek to succeed Sergio Uñac. Among them, the ruling party – with the subslogan Let’s go – will finally present the governor’s brother, Rubén Uñac. While within the Peronist slogan, but of the subgroup Volver, the former governor and national deputy, José Luis Gioja, is postulated. On the side of the opposition, Together for Change has four formulas headed by the national deputy, Marcelo Orrego; the president of the GEN, Marcelo Arancibia; the businessman, Sergio Vallejos; and the former deputy of the PRO, Eduardo Cáceres.
