The Mendoza podiatrist was arrested for being accused of the crime of his partner, Roberto Alfonso Aquiles, who died in January 2020 while he was hospitalized in a sanatorium in the Federal Capital. According to the evidence in the case, the victim’s husband manipulated the serum while Achilles was hospitalized. This is Guillermo Germán Berjeli, 45, who was a fugitive two months ago and was finally arrested by the Homicide Division of the City Police on July 18 in his home province, Mendoza. In a resolution issued last Tuesday -to which Telam agreed-, the judge in Criminal and Correctional 19, Diego Javier Slupski, prosecuted Berjeli with preventive detention as the author of a “homicide aggravated by the link, for having been committed with treachery, for the supply of poison and for greed.” According to the cameras of the hospital where the victim was hospitalized, Berjeli manipulated her husband’s serum 13 times for 10 consecutive days. During the course of the hospitalization, when Guzmán Jaque was unconscious, Berjeli repeatedly supplied him with toxic chemicals, which cannot be determined exactly, but presumably heavy alcohols, particularly methanol and / or ethylene glycol, which caused the deterioration in his health until causing his death from respiratory failure, “says the judge’s resolution. The victim, 58, was of Chilean nationality and an airline employee, died on January 12, 2020 of respiratory failure after being hospitalized for almost a month at the Anchorena Sanatorium in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Recoleta.La suspicion of poisoning comes from the doctors and nurses of the sanatorium who noticed irregularities in the labels of the serums and the videos of the cameras of the therapy room where Berjeli was hospitalized. The judge ordered the arrest of the podiatrist on May 17, after the Homicide Division found that he had left Buenos Aires a year and a half ago and was in the city of Mendoza, where he was arrested. In his questioning before the judge, Berjeli refused to testify and remains in detention, now serving pre-trial detention.
