Total support for women to break the cycle of violence: Seimujer

Morelia, Michoacán.- The Secretariat of Substantive Equality and Development of Michoacan Women (Seimujer) provides comprehensive accompaniment to women graduated from shelters, with the aim of having more tools that allow them to break cycles of violence and establish a life project for them and their families, as reported in a statement.
The head of the unit, Carolina Rangel Gracida, explained that the Support Program for Women Graduates of Shelters, where economic support of 6,223 pesos is provided when they leave, is a complement to the comprehensive care that Seimujer offers to women from the moment they come to ask for help.
“When a woman arrives with us it is because she is in an emergency situation, sometimes they come only with what they are wearing, without their documents, and even without shoes and with their children in their arms, so from the first moment, we give them the essential, which is a safe, dignified and clean place, where they can stay and where they are provided with clothes, footwear, food and health services so that they can get out of the risk situation,” he said.
She added that once the women are out of danger and housed in the shelter, they are provided with legal advice and accompaniment to file complaints, process their documentation again, or make the necessary arrangements so that their children do not stop attending school as soon as they graduate.
The accompaniment includes psychological care for them and their children, who often suffer from post-traumatic stress, or problems paying attention in classes, and is complemented by the channeling to institutions such as the Institute of Training for Work (Icatmi) to receive job training and consolidate their economic independence.
