STEP 2023: How is the counting system

With a turnout of 66% of the register at the close of most elections at 18, the election in some schools in CABA was extended after problems with electronic voting, and the results of a scrutiny marked by an anticipated slowness are expected for midnight. The process, in front of prosecutors from different political spaces, begins when the polling station authority – together with his assistant – checks the number of people who voted on the roll. Then, they open the ballot boxes and begin counting the envelopes and then continue with the total votes. Once the count is completed, the polling station authorities send the information collected via telegram to the Ministry of the Interior. Likewise, the information is written in a record that serves for the final scrutiny. In charge of the Electoral Justice and the National Electoral Directorate, the provisional count is usually disseminated at 9 p.m., but with the delay already anticipated – added to the extension in the voting in some CABA schools – it is expected that the first results will be available arriving at midnight. The presidential candidate of Union for the Fatherland (UxP), Sergio Massa, said for his part that “at 22 there will be trends.” According to official data, 27 presidential formulas were annotated with 299 lists for Deputies, 98 for the Senate and 21 for the Parlasur of the national district.
