In the face of droughts, Puruándiro mayor urges support for farmers

Puruándiro, Michoacán.- Highlighting that in his years of life he had not seen the drought that the Michoacán fields suffer today, the mayor of Puruándiro, Víctor Manuel Vázquez Tapia, urged support for producers.
“In my 43 years of life I had not seen such a drought, many crops are lost, we provide fertilizer support but it is not enough and we modify work to get water, but resources are required,” he said.
In the framework of his second government report, the mayor took advantage of the presence of the Secretary of Government, Carlos Torres Piña to express his concern for farmers and the lack of water that exists in the countryside.
He commented that there are effects on the planting of wheat, chickpeas, lentils, beans and strawberries, so the procedures for the support of the drought program were carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa). The work of the annual plan to pour water was modified, but help is still needed.
Torres Piña, said that the request of the mayor will be followed, as well as the issue of machinery and extraordinary fertilizer support.
It is worth mentioning that in Michoacán due to the drought nine municipalities are affected in an extreme way, 23 in a severe way, 74 in a moderate way and 7 abnormally.
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 90 boards, pots and dams were rehabilitated for the collection and storage of rainwater for agricultural purposes, in order to meet the requirements of the vital liquid in times of drought; where one thousand 918 hours of heavy machinery were applied, benefiting 285 producers engaged in agricultural activities in Ario, Coalcoman, Jimenez, Lagunillas, Morelia, Sahuayo, Tiquicheo and Zitácuaro.
