In Human Rights there are more complaints against Morelia Police: Torres Piña

Despite citizen perception, government presumes downward crime incidence

Morelia, Michoacán.- Although this year, complaints to Human Rights against the Civil Guard are greater than those made against the Morelia Police, the Secretary of Government, Carlos Torres Piña, stressed that in 2022 they were greater and that this year still does not end.
At a press conference, he explained that in 2022 the Civil Guard registered 14 complaints in Human Rights and the Morelia Police 29, while so far this year, the Civil Guard adds 54 complaints and 33 for the Morelia Police.
The above when questioned about the case of the young man who was assaulted and run over by a unit of the Civil Guard and allegedly elements of the same group.
Torres Piña said that there is an investigation and that if they are elements of the Civil Guard they will have to be sanctioned.
Torres Piña affirmed that the fact is already in the hands of Internal Affairs of the Secretary of Security, an instance that will be in charge of applying the corresponding sanction and reiterated that this type of facts cannot be tolerated.
“These abuses cannot be allowed to take place,” he said.
The above in front of the request of the municipal president, Alfonso Martínez, who said that they request the purging of elements of the Civil Guard before the multiple complaints (32 this year) that there are against the group.
The secretary of government accompanied by the Attorney General of the State, Adrián López Solís also pointed out that the Morelia police have been criminally denounced up to 22 times.
Meanwhile, on the issue of intentional homicides, officials reported that from January to August 2022, one thousand 428 cases were registered and in the same period of this year there are 987 cases.
In other data, it was highlighted that in 2022 there were 9 detainees for the crime of extortion, for this 2023 33 people have been arrested. In the period January August 2022, 44 folders of
Investigation for the crime of extortion, in this same period in 2023 158 folders have been registered.
While in 2022 it was possible to link 8 people to the process for the crime of extortion, until August of this 2023 26 people have been linked to this crime. As for the virtual kidnapping from January to August 2023, they have been
attended 145 cases and resulted in the release of 191 victims.
