Sales in supermarkets fell 2.5% in July

Sales in supermarkets during July fell 2.5% compared to the same month last year, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec). On the other hand, in the wholesale self-services during July they fell 3.2%, while in the large shopping centers or shopping malls sales marked an increase of 10.2%. With regard to the comparison with the previous month, sales in supermarkets during July marked a slight increase of 0.1% compared to June, in the measurement at constant values, with which the accumulated of the year showed a growth of 0.8%. Meanwhile, in wholesalers, the rise in July compared to June was 0.9%, with a positive accumulated of 1.8% for the first seven months of this year. In wholesale supermarkets, total sales at current prices totaled $83,660.8 million in July, which represented an increase of 110.6% over the same month of the previous year. As for sales in the large purchase centers, July sales were 10.2% above that of the same month of 2022, 10.7% above those of last June and a positive accumulated of 12.3% so far this year. The groups of articles with the most significant increases compared to the same month of the previous year were Apparel, footwear and home textiles, 449.9%; Electronics and household goods, 187.6%; Greengrocers and greengrocers, 177.9%; Dairy, 136.7%; and Bakery, 131.2%. Meanwhile, the “malls” of the City of Buenos Aires concentrated 31.7% of sales, and a similar level presented the 24 parties of Greater Buenos Aires.In third place was the Pampas Region, with 20%; followed by Cuyo, with 6.7%; the Northern provinces, with 5.4 per cent; and Patagonia, with 4.5%.
