Noel Gallagher said Oasis’ “Definitely Maybe” was “the last great punk album”

Noel Gallagher gave something to talk about after his recent statements in an interview with Mojo magazine. The former Oasis member claimed that his album “Definitely Maybe”, released in 1994, was “the last great jewel of punk”. In addition, he did not hesitate to compare it to the Sex Pistols’ masterpiece, “Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols”. The British musician said: “Definitely Maybe was, in many ways, punk’s last great gem. We were a punk band with Beatles melody and harmony. We had no paraphernalia, hardly any equipment, just a big dose of attitude, 12 cans of Red Stripe and ambition.” The former Oasis member elaborated on his comparison by noting, “If you look at that and compare it to ‘Never Mind The Bollocks,’ you’ll see remarkable similarities. That Sex Pistols album encapsulated the angst of being a teenager in 1977. Fast forward to 1994, and ‘Definitely Maybe’ celebrates the glory of being a teenager.” Gallagher insisted that the authenticity of both albums is what links them, offering an honest look at the youth and working class of their respective decades. Gallagher concluded his argument by stressing that, although there have been more technically virtuoso and commercially successful albums since then, “Definitely Maybe” remains a masterpiece that transcends time. “There may have been technically superior or more renowned records since then, but this album is the quintessence of authenticity. It has no unnecessary embellishments. It’s a candid portrait of working-class youth chasing their dreams.” It is not the first time in the month that Noel is news. A few weeks ago, Oasis surprised their fans by releasing a new official video for their song “Acquiesce”. The band announced that this track will be part of a special reissue of “The Masterplan”, the B-side compilation album released in 1998, which is now celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary.
