The Electoral Chamber requested to move the holiday to avoid absenteeism in the runoff

The National Electoral Chamber on Wednesday formally asked the government to reconsider the proposal to move the holiday from November 20 to avoid absenteeism in the runoff scheduled for the previous day. In this sense, the president of the National Electoral Chamber, Alberto Dalla Vía, sent the note to the Secretary General, Julio Vitobello, asking him to “consider the corresponding measures to move the holiday of November 20, commemorating Sovereignty Day,” which Monday, to the day after the second round of elections. This request is motivated by the need to favor and guarantee the participation of citizens to exercise their suffrage in these elections, which would undoubtedly be affected if the weekend were to be maintained extended with the aforementioned holiday,” said the judicial official. A few days ago, presidential spokeswoman Gabriela Cerrutti said that a move to the date of the holiday was not under evaluation. In radio statements, Deputy Chief of Staff Juan Manuel Olmos confirmed yesterday that the holiday will not be altered because it is already scheduled that way by law. “It’s not going to change. To disarm it is to disarm several Argentines their vacations and the truth is that we don’t think so. If there are Argentines who scheduled their breaks, rescheduling it now seems to me that it would bring more problems than benefits,” he explained.
