Sanctuaries of the Monarch are opened; 500 thousand visitors are expected

Senguio, Michoacán.- When opening the sanctuaries of the Monarch Butterfly in its 2023-2024 hibernation season, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, indicated that this is one of the wonders of the world and one of the most significant shows worldwide, which is why it is expected that this year it will be visited by more than 511 thousand tourists, and generate an economic spill of 625 million pesos, they reported in a statement.
Ramírez Bedolla announced that, in order to support those who take care of the forest and continue enjoying this beautiful spectacle, the debt of one million dollars owed to the farmers of the region will be covered in 2024.
“In 2024, the debt of one million dollars with the Monarch Fund will be covered, resources that will allow us to pay for the environmental services that ejidatarios receive when taking care of the forests in the Monarch Butterfly area,” he said.
The state governor highlighted the work that has been done for the conservation of forests, through the reinforcement of the actions carried out by the brigades against forest fires.
Roberto Monroy García, Secretary of Tourism, said that for this season a high attendance is expected that will exceed half a million visitors in the sanctuaries of Senguio, El Rosario and Sierra Chincua.
“With the aim of offering a better service to visitors, 157 trainings have been carried out in the three sanctuaries, with tourism services, medical services, as well as infrastructure, which allow a better stay for visitors,” he said.
Similarly, he commented that in Sierra Chincua, one million 368 thousand pesos will be invested in two kilometers of power lines, and in Senguio work will be done on the promotion of the sanctuary, which will allow a greater number of visitors, who will be attended by 19 duly certified guides.
The governor was accompanied by Grisel Tello Pimentel, honorary president of the Board of Trustees of the DIF Michoacán System; María Alejandra Vanegas Ríos, municipal president of Senguio; Luis Fernando Luna Torres, president of the Advisory Council of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve; Amado Fernández Islas, director of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve; Alejandro Méndez López, Secretary of the Environment; Seyra Anahí Alemán Sierra, local deputy; as well as ejido commissioners, municipal presidents and forest fire brigades.
