The left reacted to Milei’s speech in front of Congress

After listening to Javier Milei’s inauguration speech in front of Congress, the main leaders of the left expressed their rejection in forceful messages and called for a mobilization for December 20. Emphasizing austerity, Milei’s speech pointed to the first months of government, in which he expects a period of stagflation that will slow down the economy, and also left room to express himself against the pickets and warn that “he who cuts does not get paid.” On his social networks, Nicolás del Caño – leader of the Socialist Workers Party – questioned the president’s words and maintained that “Milei talks about debt and put Caputo as minister of economy who indebted us for 100 years.” Along these lines, the president of the Workers’ Party, Gabriel Solano, analyzed Milei’s speech and determined his forceful position regarding the aforementioned adjustment. “Milei’s reasoning is extortionate, because it presents a hyperinflationary scenario to justify that the only possible path is an adjustment. This adjustment, contrary to his campaign promises, is not going to be paid for by ‘politics’, but by the workers. But it is not true that ‘there is no money’, because with Milei’s plan what there will be will be a transfer of income from the workers to the capitalist sectors,” he said. Then, the legislator referred to the section of the speech in which the president pointed out the “legacy” that remains from the previous administration. “Nor is it true that the inflation to come is only a result of inherited inflation, Milei’s plan is inflationary in itself […] We call not to buy into the story that we have already heard so many times that with the adjustment ‘there is light at the end of the tunnel’, this is not so, this package is an offering to the capitalist sectors, the investment funds and the IMF and a huge blow to the working class,” he said. Thus, Solano called for a mobilization to combat the ideas put forward by Milei at his inauguration. “That is why we call to mobilize on December 20 together with the labor movement and combative piqueteros, to put a stop to this totally anti-worker plan,” he said. Through her official account on X -formerly Twitter-, Myriam Bregman, former candidate for president for the Left Front, denounced racist insults by Milei’s guests present in the boxes. Likewise, the national deputy indicated that “it is a classic orthodox adjustment on the living conditions of working people,” and described the process as “an electoral scam.” For her part, national deputy Romina del Plá Milei questioned the president’s assertions and commented: “He said that ‘he who cuts does not get paid’, but he congratulates the one who fires […] We, for our part, call on people not to be intimidated and to overcome the paralysis of the union bureaucracy, to stand up and face this enormous blow to the people’s incomes. On December 20 we call to fill the Plaza de Mayo together with the combative trade unionism and the piquetero front of struggle.”
