Lázaro Cárdenas.- Las Peñas is a natural paradise located 20 minutes from Playa Azul; a bay where most of the inhabitants, like Rigoberto, leave in their boat from 5 p.m. to the vast sea to carry out the main productive activity, fishing.
For more than 10 years, this trade has become the family livelihood of Rigoberto Gutiérrez, who, a native of this beautiful place, learned this work from a young age by accompanying his father.
“I grew up in the sea, it’s my passion and at the same time I have respect for it, you learn to know it because I spend more time here than on dry land; It was my father who taught me how to fish and we are fond of him, since we eat from here,” he said.
With night shifts of up to 12 hours, it returns to land with the fishing achieved in the cold waters, therefore, the importance of its activity taking place during the night, since in this way the marine specimens such as the red snapper, flamingo, dorado, cook and ronco, rise to the surface and with luck, patience and a correct technique will take the bait.
“The secret of fishing is patience and good humor, if you go out to work angry you don’t catch anything. It takes time,” he said.
Once the all-night journey is over, from 6 to 7 in the morning, this small coastal town is filled with color with the fishermen who return to the beach and begin to offer the great variety of fresh seafood that fills their boats, the product of their effort and work.
For tourists, the shore of the beach is full of bowers that offer delicious gastronomy made with the catch of the day, or if you prefer, you can buy the piece you prefer directly from the fisherman and it will be prepared at your choice.
