“Omnibus Law”: it will be debated in only three committees of Deputies, despite covering a greater number of topics

After many delays, this Thursday the first four commissions of the Javier Milei era will be formed in the Chamber of Deputies, within the framework of the period of extraordinary sessions convened by the Executive Branch. In principle, they were the commissions that would be in charge of analyzing the draft law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, but on Wednesday night it was learned that the law will be dealt with only in three commissions despite containing 644 articles that modify and repeal more than 350 norms. The committees to be created by the House will be: Budget and Finance, Constitutional Affairs, General Legislation and Foreign Relations. The ambitious project, which the Executive seeks to approve before January 31, will only be discussed in the first three commissions. The decision generated criticism from the Union for the Homeland (UxP), whose bloc president, Germán Martínez, questioned by assuring that in his opinion the ruling party “does not want to debate” the law. Three (commissions), not even four… The twist has just been published, at 8:30 p.m. Do you think so? That 660 articles, covering more than 25 different subjects, can be discussed in just 3 commissions?” he said. Regarding the distribution of the commissions, the Union for the Homeland questioned the amount that was assigned to each of them, arguing that “the D’Hont system was not respected” and anticipated that they will formalize the observation during the meetings. In addition to the low number of commissions that will be formed to deal with the “omnibus law,” which according to the caucus should be 25, not four. Constitutional Affairs will be composed of 35 members: 5 from La Libertad Avanza (LLA); 5 from the PRO; 5 from the Radical Civic Union (UCR); 3 of We Do Federal Coalition; 15 UxP; 1 from Creo and 1 from Federal Innovation.General Legislation will be composed of 27 legislators: 5 from LLA; 5 from the PRO; 4 from the UCR; 3 of We Do Federal Coalition; 12 UxP; 1 from Juntos Hacemos Río Negro and 1 from Unión Mendoza.Foreign Relations and Worship will be made up of 43 deputies: 8 LLA; 6 from the PRO; 6 from UCR; 4 of We Make Federal Coalition; 18 from UxP and 1 from Federal Innovation. Finally, Budget and Finance will have another 49 members: 7 from LLA; 7 from the PRO; 7 from the UCR; 3 of We Do Federal Coalition; 20 UxP; 1 Freedom Advances; 2 from Federal Innovation; 1 from the FIT-Unit and 1 from Production and Labor.
