Autonomous bodies were created to protect individuals: AMLO – MonitorExpresso.com

Mexico. – In relation to the statements of the commissioner of the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece), Andrea Marván Saltiel, about carefully examining the sale of Iberdrola’s plants to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said in his morning conference that he is also monitoring the situation and intends to eliminate these agencies.
The Mexican president is preparing to eliminate this and other commissions, a proposal that he will include in the package of constitutional reform initiatives that he will present on February 5.
“We are also reviewing with a magnifying glass what these agencies do, to the extent that I am going to propose in the package of initiatives that all these agencies that they created to protect individuals disappear,” he said.
In addition, he explained that through the new reforms he will modify the articles approved in previous administrations characterized by “neoliberal” policies, which he considers contrary to the interest of Mexicans.
“I am going to present new reforms to modify articles that were approved against the interest of Mexicans. Reforms that were made in the neoliberal period, that were made in the last 36 years (…) The private has more weight than the public, that’s why it’s the attitude of that body.”
This is because the president, Andrea Marván, stated that they are carefully examining the transfer of Iberdrola’s fossil generation power plants to the Mexican government.
“That case was formally notified to the Commission in September 2023 and it is an operation that we have to review very carefully, with all the technical rigor,” said Marván Saltiel.
In addition, López Obrador said that these autonomous bodies are a farce.
“I am proposing that all these agencies disappear, it was all a farce and they used as an excuse that there should be no monopolies,” AMLO added.
