Mayor Uruapan recognizes the operation of criminal groups in the municipality – MonitorExpresso.com

Morelia, Michoacán.- The municipal president of Uruapan, Ignacio Campos Equihua, recognized the operation of 5 organized crime groups based on the outskirts of the municipality and who intend to interfere in the place.
In an interview, he said that these are the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Viagras, the Knights Templar, the Familia Michoacana and the Cartels or United Peoples, and that the economic movement of Uruapan generates a “special” interest of this type of organizations.
“There are 5 groups that are the Jalisco Cartel, which are the Viagras, United Cartels, and the Templars, and one more that escapes me that are those who are settled on the outskirts of the municipality and want to intervene here,” he said.
Campos Equihua reported that the criminal group that generated the attack on the 3 car sales lots has been identified, which operates not only nationally but internationally, but asked to wait for the investigations.
He pointed out that it is the first event of this nature that occurs during his administration in the urban area of the municipality, since the rest of the violent events had occurred in the rural area.
Likewise, the case of the extortion of tortilla makers, transporters and some establishments can be attributed to “small cells that are starting” and that have begun to stop, but the situation of the lots was very different.
Along with Zamora, Uruapan is in the top ten of the most violent cities in Latin America.
Ignacio Campos pointed out that the municipality represents a special situation for criminal groups, “most of the events were in rural areas or in areas that did not generate this type of situation, but evidently this situation happened in this batch of vehicles that is being worked on, there it is not up to me as a municipality to do the investigative work, but it is a follow-up,” he said.
He said he had confidence in the joint work of the security forces and that they would continue to operate in a coordinated manner.
