Bad news for Caputo: Joaquín Cottani, Secretary of Economic Policy, resigned

In the last few hours, Joaquín Cottani, Secretary of Economic Policy, resigned from his post, which shows the first casualty in the economic team led by Luis Caputo under the administration of Javier Milei.According to the Ministry of Economy, Cottani, close to Domingo Cavallo and a former member of his team in the 1990s, left the post for “personal reasons.” Meanwhile, as reported by Infobae, Ministry sources explained that Cottani’s decision is mainly due to the distance from his family, who reside in New York. “It is very difficult for him to go and return all the time,” they said, clarifying that he will remain in office until the end of the month. Then, about his replacement, the rumor arose that it could be the Chilean economist José Luis Daza, who is an old acquaintance of Caputo because they worked together in institutions such as JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank. Like Cottani, Daza also resides outside Argentina, so he will have to settle his personal issues. This resignation comes at a key moment for Milei’s economic team, which has just approved the Bases Law and the fiscal package and faces challenges due to the inflationary and basic basket numbers released by INDEC in the last few hours.
