The president of the Medical College, Izkia Siches, again lashed out at the Government and its management of the coronavirus crisis, stating that they did not consult the participants of the covid-19 social table with the new measures taken to deal with the pandemic.
“The social table doesn’t make any of these determinations, we don’t handle any more background than the public already handles around cases, and it’s therefore that we’ve asked for more information so that we can understand and explain to the public some of the measures the government has taken,” Colmed’s leader said in an interview with Cooperativa.
Siches also criticized the decision to establish a partial quarantine in some communes of the country, as well as to eliminate it in others. “It is unwise, especially because of the critical patient scenario that has been increasing in the different units of the country, we also do not know in detail the expansion of the beds that exist and the human resource that has been increasing.”
“Today we are faced with a kind of obscurantism that surprises us, we believed that with the social table that was going to change and I regret that it did not materialized,” he added.
The criticisms were collected by the Under-Secretary of Welfare Networks, Arturo Zúniga, who stated that “a higher level of information was requested, which I personally committed to hand over to the social table and to each of its participants”.
Zúñiga argued that at the last meeting of the covid-19 social table, in which he participated, “I was able to explain about a proposal that the Medical College itself made, both to convert the hospitals and strengthen them to the care of coronavirus, as well as to the measures that as Ministry of Health we have dictated so that the establishments, the health personnel , have a security-friendly support and to be able to maintain attention during these weeks that are going to be pretty tough.”
“All that information was provided yesterday to everyone on the social table,” he added.
