translated from Spanish: Yarrington seeks Mexico to cancel apprehension order

Tomás Yarrington, former governor of Tamaulipas, who has a money laundering apprehension order, in Mexico, seeks to be granted cancellation by federal authorities on the grounds that the crime has already been prescribed.
Through an amparo that a federal judge has already admitted, Yarrington seeks to initiate the process of the application where it is requested that the washing be declared prescribed for 12.7 million pesos and $450 thousand, which according to the authorities, was used in the purchase of three properties in Mexico and the United States.
The arrest warrant for the former governor was issued by the defunque Seventh District Court in Federal Criminal Proceedings of Toluca on May 25, 2017. On November 5, 2019, Yarrington made a first attempt to have the crime declared prescribed, however, the crime did not proceed.
Thomas Yarrington did not give up and filed an amparo before that decision, however, that legal remedy was again scraped. Faced with this, he made a complaint with this discarding, and when the pandemic arrived the legal process was paused.
Last September, the Second Collegiate Criminal Court of Toluca ordered the admission of the protection. Faced with this, according to information from the newspaper Reform, a judge last October agreed to the admission of his claim for guarantees, in compliance with the court’s ruling.
This is one of two apprehensions submitted by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in order to obtain the extradition of Tomas Yarrington.
According to the FGR, “the testaferros bought Yarrington an apartment on Father’s Island, Texas, for $450,000; El Mirador ranch, 500 hectares, at 6.7 million pesos; and the 100-hectare El Colmenar ranch, at 6 million pesos, the latter two in Soto la Marina, Tamaulipas,” reports the same medium.
On April 20, 2018, Italy extradited the former representative to the United States, did not do so to Mexico, he argued, “because of the poor humanitarian conditions of his prisons.” For now, Yarrington is in a trial in Texas, being tried for drug trafficking and money laundering.
