Annette Bening stars in new thriller “Apples Never Fall”

Universal+ announced the premiere of “Apples Never Fall”, the new family thriller starring Sam Neill (“Jurassic Park”) and Annette Bening (“Nyad”). As reported by the platform in a press release, it will arrive on the small screen on July 16. The story is based on the book of the same name by Lianne Moriarty, who has already adapted several of her works for television; among them is “Big Little Lies”, which in fiction starred Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon. What is it about? The plot follows Stan (Neill) and Joy (Bening) Delaney, two former tennis coaches who sold their academy. As they wait to spend time with their four adult children (Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner, and Essie Randles), an injured young woman will knock on their doors. When Joy suddenly disappears, the protagonists must rethink the family’s perfect appearance and uncover the secrets behind it. Photo: Courtesy of the press”Unfortunately, there are multiple cases in which a woman disappears and the husband is the main suspect in her murder. He is invariably described as a loving father and that made me think about how I would feel if my mother disappeared and everyone said that my father had possibly murdered her,” the author said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.“I read an article in the newspaper about an elderly couple who let a young woman into their house, who said she had been a victim of domestic violence and as a result committed a crime. I was intrigued by the idea that the poor elderly couple thought they were doing the right thing by letting her in.”
