translated from Spanish: “It is unfair and aggressive against the dignity of the LGBTi population”: Movilh directed letter to the rector of UC after rejecting flag of diversity

After the Catholic university banned the law student center from lifting the flag of diversity Sexual in the framework of the day Against Homophobia and transphobia, the movement of Homosexual Integration and Liberation (MOVILH) expressed to the Rector of the House of Studies, Ignacio Sanchez, his “discomfort and concern” for the “discriminatory argument” given in this regard.
“The authorities have a duty to ensure that a manifestation of legitimate freedom of thought cannot be estimated as a provocation for those who support different equally respectable thoughts,” were some of the arguments delivered By the UC’s secretary general, Marisol Peña, to the students. In a letter addressed to Rector Sanchez, the Movilh argued that “to qualify as provocation and as a ‘ threat to peace and harmony ‘ to a symbol representing the human rights of people historically discriminated on account of their sexual orientation or identity of Gender, constitutes an unfair and aggressive appreciation against the dignity of the LGBTi population. ”
For the Movilh, the assertion of the UC is “insensitive and for nothing pedagogical or educational, because the university by refusing to raise the flag for the reasons that it exposes, listens and only serves and gives reason to those sectors that prejudiciously consider the symbol as a Provocation instead of helping to educate these groups in respect of social diversity. ”
It should be recalled that since 2012, the MOVILH launched the Rainbow Campaign that invites public and private institutions to raise the flag of diversity on the International Day Against Homophobia and transphobia.
In this sense, the organization called UC’s rejection as “one of the most biased” and “more troubling to be an educational entity.”
Concluding the letter, the Movilh asked Sanchez to “entrusted training in human rights and non-discrimination against all and all officials of the General secretariat and that, in future, the reedition of such aggressive languages and attitudes against the Human dignity. ”
