translated from Spanish: Five diseases join the AUGE system

Lung, thyroid, kidney, multiple myeloma and Alzheimer’s cancer. These are the new five pathologies that, since this Monday, join the AUGE system, thus achieving their coverage both in the public and private system.
This was announced by President Sebastián Piñera, who added that this will mean an additional 39 billion pesos for the leglogies covered by the AUGE. “This will allow us to benefit more than 21,000 Chileans and additional Chileans who are already covered by auge guarantees. In this way we are increasing the number of diseases with AUGE guarantee”.
Piñera emphasized that “the last time new diseases were incorporated into the AUGE guarantees was during our first Government, in which we first increased diseases from 56 to 69 diseases with AUGE guarantee and then from 69 to 80”.
The President “with this, the diseases covered by the AUGE guarantees go from 80 to 85, giving a much broader and better coverage to this type of diseases”.
Four of these five diseases are cancers. In this sense, Piñera referred to the resources earmarked for the National Cancer Law, explaining that it “contemplates an additional investment of 20 billion pesos” and “a special investment plan to be able to better care for, treat and care for Chileans “means investments of an additional 300 billion pesos.”
