translated from Spanish: Let’s stop all violence now THE DEBATE

Violence against women in our society, on our streets, not only is it not contained but continues to increase with alarming rates and already outrageous dyes. Only the figures that have been recorded so far this year horrify and pass us and even have an impact beyond our borders: More than a thousand femicides and 25 thousand open crime investigation folders in the country. The causes, as we know, are complex and form a web with a high degree of difficulty in disarming it, because the same is in response to cultural conditionings, where machismo and misogyny prevail, as well as the impunity and inefficiency of the police and judicial circuits to prevent and correct these criminal trends. Thus, we have witnessed countless assaults on hundreds of thousands of women of the most diverse economic classes and federal entities, and who are not sanctioned in a timely manner. Meanwhile, despair and outrage have swelled up in the female population and their own families, across the country, to the extent that now as we saw it in Mexico City the protest has been forceful and firm for the government itself to react and afine how to fail to understand them if we witness cases in which the police themselves violate or harass women or are complicit in the provision of justice. A strong reaction that, while explained and understood, we would never want to involve anger and destruction in order to move through the peaceful and institutional way. In any case, it is a call for the authorities to respond more and better as well as for the various feminist organizations to demand responses to their demands and protests, and that they should not be criminalized. And let it be very clear, that it is up to all of us, men and women, to develop an equitable and respectful, harmonious and complementary society in favour of the best causes in Mexico, that is, of ourselves, without exceptions.
