translated from Spanish: Insecurity cancels homeland parties in Michoacán municipalities

The mayor of Buenavista, Michoacán, Gordiano Zepeda Chávez, reported that there will be no patriotic festivities of Grito de Independencia on September 15, nor the civic parade of 16 September, because they do not have the necessary security conditions in the municipality.
This determination was due to the lack of security in the area and the failure to do so by different sectors of society, in agreement with the Cabildo, decided not to hold any public event on the occasion of the month of the country.
This, after last Sunday there was a shooting a few meters from the main square of the municipal head, where many families were gathered in a cultural event.
The municipality of Buenavista, in Tierra Caliente, would be the second where the activities of the family month are suspended, after Tepalcatepec.
The municipal president, Felipe Martínez Pérez, reported since September 2 that due to the insecurity that is experienced in this Mexican town the authorities have decided to cancel the activities corresponding to this year’s Fiestas Patrias.
Using a video he disseminated online, the official reported that he held a meeting with staff from the education sector, the security council, among other managers, who reached this conclusion.
“I want to tell you that we have agreed not to carry out the homeland festivities on 13, 14, 15 and 16 September for reasons of insecurity,” he stressed.
He reiterated that in this municipality there are no security conditions to be able to make the events that were contemplated.
“We look forward to your understanding, because we fear other kinds of attacks and we do not want to expose any lives of our loved ones, or of the people in general.”
The weekend before the announcement was reported clashes between two armed groups, which left 9 dead in Tepalcatepec.
