translated from Spanish: Antofagasta Court of Appeals bans lethal weapons and Balinese against peaceful protesters

The Antofagasta Court of Appeal partially accepted an order not to innovate and banned the use of lethal weapons and Balinese against peaceful protesters.
The court also limited the use of tear-gas bombs and other methods that affect the physical integrity of individuals.
In this regard, the minister of the high court, Scar Clavería, said that the decision was taken regarding protection remedies brought against Carabineros and the Ministry of the Interior.
“An order not to innovate partially is enacted, in the sense that the above-mentioned authorities must strictly adhere to the protocol provided by the Ministry of the Interior for the current situation,” said Clavería.
Following the decision of the Court of Appeal, the uniformed police should “refrain from using lethal weapons, as well as Balinese with respect to peaceful protesters, limiting the use of tear gas or any other method or procedure that affects the physical integrity of people to the extreme situations that warrant it.”
Rubilar: “We couldn’t agree more to the Court of Antofagasta”
Government Spokeswoman Minister Karla Rubilar referred to the decision of the Antofagasta Court of Appeals and said that “we could not agree more with the Antofagasta Court. Of course, you can’t use Balinese against peaceful protesters.”
“The use of Balinese against peaceful protesters is prohibited, of course. It is used when we are at risk of the life of a civilian or a carabinero,” the minister said at a press point with the undersecretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Ubilla.
