The extortion increased 105% in the Gustavo A. Madero mayoralty of Mexico City between January and September 2019 compared to the same period of 2018. Theft of business with violence increased 64% in the same period.

The main tourist attraction of this demarcation is the Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which received 10 million 603 thousand pilgrims in December 2018 and broke attendance records according to data from the Ministry of Civil Protection of Mexico City ( SPCCDMX). As for the theft of business with violence, this crime increased between 2011 and 2013 and fell between 2015 and 2017. Between 2017 and 2018 it recorded an uptick. The total number of cases so far in 2019 is already higher than the total for 2018.
On the total crime incidence, this was increased in two stages: the first between 2011 and 2014 and the second, between 2015 and 2018. The total crime rate in 2018 was the highest recorded since 2011.
The extortion recorded a decline between 2015 and 2018. However, the cumulative cases so far in 2019 are higher than the 2018 total.

The total crime incidence in the Mayor Gustavo A. Madero increased by 3% between 2018 and 2019 from 17,975 crimes (equivalent to 1,659 per 100 thousand inhabitants) to 18,524 (1,724 per 100 thousand inhabitants).

This increase was influenced by the increase in crimes against personal wealth. In addition to extortion and theft of business with violence increased the crime of robbery by carrier with violence (52%), theft of home with violence (30%) and business theft (14%). The intentional homicide was down 6% and the intentional gun homicide dropped 7%.
In early June 2019, elements of the Ministry of Citizen Security in Mexico City arrested two people after a call detailing the unloading of goods of a van without plates, which was introduced to a private address located in Colonia Ampliación Malacates.

In September, following a complaint by several neighbors, two people were captured who broke in to steal 50 cell phones and tool in a pawn shop located in the streets Estado de Chihuahua and Estado de Sonora in Colonia Providencia.
