translated from Spanish: LeBaron’s speech in protest in CDMX

Part of the LeBarón family marched on Sunday with other citizens from the Angel of Independence to the Monument to the Revolution to demand from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador – who marks this 1 December a year of government – security and justice.
Adrián LeBarón, father and grandfather of victims of the November 4 attack in Bavispe, Sonora, asked not to remain silent in the face of the violence that strikes the country. Here’s his full speech:
“My heart is full of pain, my voice trembles with fury, sorry to come here to say that today I do not care about the economy, nor the corruption, nor the airport, nor the colors of political parties. Nor the reasons that this day have us selling speeches in two different places in this capital city.
Forgive me that it is not in my interest to tell the mother to the president, nor the Fifi, nor the Chairos. Forgive me for not no longer believing in everything that makes us different from each other.
Excuse me, but my heart is full of pain and strangely today I can only think of my desire to live. And it is that we live in a country where we lose our lives only for the most unfair of reasons: for wanting to live.
To decide, and I tell you that in the name of Ronitha, my daughter, for deciding to be a woman, to decide to be a bride, to decide to be a wife, lover, prosperous, struggle, life giver, daughter, granddaughter, that’s why they kill me.
For being student, poor, marginalized, rebellious, eager for progress. for raising a strong voice for the injustice of poverty. That’s why they kill me, for deciding to cross a road my children, a road, yes dangerous, because some thugs decided it was their way, for resisting being a mother slave to fear, that’s why they kill me and my babies.
We live in a country that has lost respect for life, and has lost respect for life, because it has lost the ability to feel.
Forgive me if I offend someone, but today I come to scream with all the strength of my spirit because I want to listen to the whole world. This is a desperate cry that seeks an answer to a question: how can we come together before we all get killed? Please!
If one of you has the answer, someone in this world has the answer, can anyone help me? Can someone help me stop my blood before it gets out of my chest? Can anyone do it?
Killing women and children and babies is a ruthless act, it is the worst nightmare for a father, for a mother, for a family and for a country.
But continuing to live our lives as if nothing happened is an act of infinite cowardice.
Every death, whether they want it or not, is a piece of life that goes out inside you, inside me, within us. That’s the pain, forgive me if I offend you but the tears spring up and I can’t hold them back, and now I don’t get away from so much that I’ve cried.
My fury is the same size as my desire to live. I want all of us to stay alive, not to kill us.
And I will walk around the world if necessary, until I find the knowledge, practices and tips to build from my municipality Galeana, from my municipality Bavispe, an example of a village where the number one priority is respect for life.
My daughter and grandchildren are now stars who live next to the Moon, it is a sky of thousands of stars that have stopped shining among us because they have been killed. They guide me, they guide us and ask us, they demand that we not stand with our arms crossed and our mouths open drooping like fools.
They guide us and ask us, I invite good consciences this day, the bravest, wherever they are, here in Mexico and in the world, to those consciences to sow life every day and to stand a face to it relentlessly, as Julián (LeBarón) does to any kind of violence that comes to us.
Look around, look at each other, look at each other, please look into each other’s eyes, look carefully, take a deep breath and look at each other. I have received much, much love seeing the eyes of all of you and I thank you. You’ve seen my eyes cry.
All of us are a beautiful fabric, sister, brother, and every act of violence is a hole that destroys our tissue, little by little. It is time to lift from the floor all the pieces of pain that we have accumulated to build with them a new sun that melts the fear that has us paralyzed.
Pure pa’in front Julian, pure pa’in front of Mexico”.
