translated from Spanish: Sergio Baez considers Amnesty Law a Humanitarian Proposal

Morelia, Michoacán.- Through a statement it has been reported that the local deputy of the Congress of Michoacán, Sergio Báez Torres, considered the law of amnesty as a humanitarian proposal, which brings Mexico closer to being a more just country, before a precarious apparatus of justice .
Faced with the proposal made since the campaign by the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the legislator representing the XXI District, recalled that a considerable part of the population in detention is in this situation due to lack of resources or ignorance about the laws, so amnesty would allow them to return to their lives in society.
“There are a lot of people who are purging penalties in prisons because they didn’t have enough resources for a defense, for someone to follow up on their case, amnesty is a humanitarian proposition.”
Baéz Torres mentioned that the proposal would cover those prisoners who committed misdemeanors, who are not of the federal jurisdiction and who have not in any way attacked the integrity of others.
Therefore, he called on the deputies of the LXXIV Legislature not to worry about the law, as the mechanisms for it to be implemented will be specified, in addition to the monitoring of the cases, conditioning the behavior of the beneficiaries once reinserted into society.
“Those who could enjoy this benefit must take full care of the mechanism so that it translates into an improvement of their legal situation.”
