Strong storm in Misiones: destruction by hail and gusts of wind

On the eve of the runoff, a strong storm occurred in Posadas, Misiones, which caused trees and poles to fall, roofs to be blown off and the Uruguay River to rise. In addition, flooding in El Soberbio and Monteagudo forced evacuations. In fact, the army got involved to distribute food and provide humanitarian aid. It was even clarified that, despite significant damage, the General Electoral Command guarantees that the election day will be able to take place successfully. In view of this, Favio Cabello, director of OPAD, made it clear that it was a historic hailstorm: “A phenomenon like this, with five-centimeter stones falling for 12 minutes, there are no records that it has occurred before.” Gusts of more than 150 km/h were also recorded, causing eight minor injuries and damage to a sawmill and about 30 houses. Then, from the Provincial Directorate of Roads (DPV) of Misiones, it was specified that road interventions were recorded with closures in bridges over the Chancay and Santa Rita streams, in addition to the El Soberbio stream on Provincial Route No. 2. At the same time, they are monitoring the Chafariz and Saltito streams, which are affected by the rise of the river, so the bridges over the Los Muertos (Provincial Route No. 222) and Guerrero (Provincial Route No. 230 in San Javier) streams are totally interrupted. In this way, the authorities explained that residents and drivers are recommended to follow updates from the DPV for real-time information on the status of roads and bridges affected by the storm.
