translated from Spanish: BcS murdered businessman brother says police man confessed to torture

The case of businessman José Arredondo, killed on July 16, 2019 in San José Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico, presents new clues.
According to the testimony of Sergio Arredondo, José’s brother, a ministerial policeman who identified himself as Commander José de Jesús García assured him that Roberto Guadalupe “N”, 51, was his brother’s killer, although he also said that to get his statement he was kidnapped and tortured in the desert.

José Arredondo was a businessman born in Michoacán, but from the age of 12 he lived in the United States. There he was well known for owning large automotive businesses in Bakersfield and for being the father of Samuel Kim, a popular Korean-style singer of K-Pop. On July 16, 2019, he was killed in his apartment in San José Los Cabos, Baja California Sur. Nearly two weeks later, 51-year-old businessman Roberto Guadalupe, who was a friend of the victim, was arrested and has remained in prison ever since.
Investigations into the case include reports of torture and kidnapping allegedly committed by ministerial agents of the State Prosecutor’s Office.
“Now they’re going to pick him up. They’re not going to arrest him, they’re going to take him to the desert right now, and there he’s going to blow up what happened,” was what Commander Garcia Arredondo allegedly told Sergio Arredondo.
These events allegedly occurred on July 19 at the Las Gardenias condominium in San José Los Cabos. That’s where José Arredondo’s body appeared three days earlier, and there the agents quoted Roberto Guadalupe. According to Roberto’s testimony, after agreeing that he would go to the headquarters of the Prosecutor’s Office for questioning, two vehicles intercepted him and spent a week illegally locked up. On 29 July he was officially arrested and imprisoned, accused of killing the businessman with which he played golf for 25 years.
“I feel used. I don’t want an innocent man to pay,” Sergio Arredondo said in an interview on Telemundo involving the lawyer of the victim’s brothers, Armando Serrano, and Jaime Salomón Tacher Urbina, lawyer Roberto Guadalupe, the only one arrested for the murder.
Daniel de la Rosa Anaya, Attorney General of the State of Baja California Sur, believes that the accusations made by the victim’s brother are explained by the struggle she has with the widow, Laura Arredondo, because of the inheritance. “He (referring to Sergio Arredondo) wanted us to investigate the wife. For him one of those responsible is the wife,” he said.
Questioned about the accusations of torture of her agents, De la Rosa Anaya said an internal investigation has been opened. However, it argued that this case is based on evidence before the judge. Specifically, these are traces of the victim’s blood that allegedly appeared in Roberto Guadalupe’s shoes and car. The defendant has always assured that the ministerials “sowed” this evidence during the week in which he claims to have been kidnapped.
According to data from the National Public Safety System, 82 murders were reported in Baja California Sur between January and November 2019, out of a total of 31,688, making it one of the states with the least impact of murderous violence.
The testimony of Sergio Arredondo confirms the version held by Jaime Salomón Tacher Urbina, defense attorney of Roberto Guadalupe, who claims that this is a fabricated accusation, and denounces that within this case there are a dozen people who claim to have been irregularly detained and tortured by agents of Baja California Sur.
Animal Político had access to the defendant’s first statement before the judge, in which he reported being kidnapped for a week by ministerial agents and assured that the evidence against him was prepared by uniforms, who entered his home illegally.
At the same hearing, a cousin of his, Enrique, and the only witness, also spoke, a security guard in the condominium in which the victim resided. Both claimed to have been kidnapped by ministerials to obtain testimonies. The case of the guard is especially relevant as it is the only person who singled out Martínez González as a possible manager. Later, before the judge, she disregarded her accusation and claimed she was induced by the policemen.
So far, 10 people claim to have been tortured during the investigations into the murder of José Arredondo.
So far only the first three have filed the complaint before the judge investigating Arredondo’s murder. No one has filed any complaints for ill-treatment. Jaime Salomón Tacher Urbina, attorney for the murder defendant, said he plans to bring the case before federal authorities.
First were Roberto Guadalupe “N”, his cousin Enrique and the security guard of the Las Gardenias condominium. All three reported being beaten and forced to testify during an early trial hearing, held on 7 October in Los Cabos.
Three other people subsequently reported being abducted and mistreated by ministerials. This is José, former manager of the restaurant Gastro Bar by Martin Berasategui, his son, of American nationality, and his cousin.
“I fear for my life and for my family’s. I don’t feel safe. If they don’t help me, I’m going to disappear,” he told Animal Politics in early November. Joseph was scheduled to testify before the judge at a hearing to be held on 14 December. He was unable to attend as he was again arrested with his wife on Thursday, December 5, and accused of being part of a gang of kidnappers and “gathering arms”. The two are currently imprisoned in Los Cabos prison.
His defense is also in the hands of Jaime Salomón Tacher Urbina. The lawyer said that in this second detention the ministerials also urged them to declare thename responsible for Arredondo’s death. The couple knew the businessman because they both said they had had intimate relationships with him. In addition, José Arredondo was a regular at the restaurant where the detainee worked.
Five other people were also arrested in the latter operation. This is Raul, José’s partner in a small construction company that had just been put into operation, and four other employees. Raúl currently acts as a protected witness, although Tacher Urbina claimed that he was tortured and that he was damaged by the blows to the head.
According to the website Colectivopericu.net, this operative sought to arrest those responsible for an assault on a Banorte in Cabo San Lucas on October 4.
In parallel with the allegation of torture, lawyer Jaime Salomón Tacher Urbina claimed to have detected follow-ups the last time he visited Los Cabos. Specifically, he referred to the presence of a subject in front of his hotel room, which was detected by the property’s security services and forced him to change places to stay overnight.
The public ministry has until January 27 to build his case for the murder of José Arredondo. At that point you will have to decide whether to permanently link Roberto Guadalupe to the process. If so, 15 working days are open for the parties to prepare the trial.
