translated from Spanish: The environmental activities with which it opens the year

Workshops for children on birds, biodiversity training for neighbors and teachers will be held in January 2020. These activities are free and with limited quotas.
Artist Bird Workshop
Within the framework of the “Anideras Houses” Program, the Municipality of Providencia and in conjunction with the Institute of Ecology & Biodiversity invites the second day of “Artistic Pajareros”, an activity that seeks, through tools of art, that children learn from the birds that live day by day with us. They are two simultaneous workshops, to be held this Friday, January 10 between 10:30 and 13:30, in the Inés de Suárez Park.
“We want children to learn to know the birds they live with in the city, and also learn to have behaviors in the city that favor their presence. The methodology starts with a conversation, where we show them some birds that live in Santiago, we ask them if they know them and everything. Then we make them a watercolor workshop where they have to draw and paint some of the birds that live in the city. And a clay workshop where they shape the birds” says Silvia Lazzarino, a biologist, a scientific illustrator and in charge of the activity.
Quotas are limited, and registrations can be made on this form, or via email medioambiente@providencia.cl
Urban Biodiversity Academy for Neighbors
Similar to the workshop for the little ones, this academy aims to provide more theoretical knowledge about landscapes, flora, fauna and ecological interactions in Santiago. This workshop will have practical activities and a field outing for participants to identify species of flora and fauna of the city. This workshop will be held on Saturday s 11, 18 and 25 January, from 9:30 to 13:30 hours, in units of the Directorate of Toilet and Ornato, Maintenance and Green Areas of Providencia (Caupolicán #1151).
“Since the 1990s’ it has been recognized that urban environments are also important repositories of biodiversity, and they can be even more so, also recognizing that urban landscapes are increasingly on the rise in the world. In Berlin, for example, a third of the bee diversity of entire Germany is located. Or in Bristol, half of all birds in England are present in the city,” says the University of Chile’s head of this activity and biologist, Nélida Pohl.
Quotas are limited and registrations are through this link or in medioambiente@providencia.cl.
Urban Biodiversity Academy for Teachers
The Academy of Urban Biodiversity for teachers of the commune consists of 4 modules where theoretical knowledge on landscapes, flora, fauna and ecological interactions of the city of Santiago will be given.
This knowledge will be reinforced through practical activities and a field exit, which will allow participants (teachers) to identify species of flora and fauna, diversify the ways of observing the environment, record data and communicate their conclusions based on evidence, enhancing reflection and discussion. On the other hand, the creative processes of science and art will be addressed through the elaboration of a log or field journal.
“Urbanization is getting stronger every day, and more people live in the city every day: in Chile more than 80% of the population lives in cities. That makes us lose direct contact with the wild, and being hyperconnected with what happens with other parts of the world also makes us lose that power of observation, being able to see what is and share with the small species. Our goal is to give an opportunity to meet the fauna of the city. And to recognize us as part of that,” Lazzarino adds.
This academy will be held from 20 to 23 January, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, depending on the Toilet Management, Ornato, Maintenance and Green Areas of Providencia, located in Caupolicán street No. 1151.
