At the end of March, the indigenous transmission of COVID-19
UNAM experts noted that this measure was taken considering the results of a mathematical model developed by the University. This model estimates that “indigenous transmission of the virus will be evident in late March, or early April”.
“That implies that there is a transmission right now, that we don’t see, but that’s certainly happening,” Ponce de León said. The academic said this is the best time to start taking such actions gradually and “based on the best interest in public health rather than politics.”

In addition, in a statement UNAM confirmed that in accordance with the recommendations and opinions of its experts, it “will implement a series of preventive measures during the month of March, in the presence and imminent dispersion of COVID-19”.
The University stressed that “next week preventive and health actions will be strengthened in all campuses and offices of the University”. He also stated that he enlists an academic project so that eventually students and teachers could work from their homes. It should be noted that there is no foreseen, for now, the suspension of classes in the classrooms, but the number of massive events in closed places will be reduced.
