The Mayor of the Metropolitan Region, Felipe Guevara, called positive the first balance sheet of control with respect to the measures taken in “holy week” to prevent the departure of people from the capital and in the framework of the prohibition of movements involving customs and health cords.
In information delivered from La Moneda by the Minister of the Interior, Gonzalo Blumel, it was established that between this Thursday and Friday, some 41 thousand cars left Santiago, meaning a decrease of 74.3% compared to last year, when almost 161 thousand left the region. Meanwhile, some 40,000 vehicles entered Santiago, unlike last year, which was more than 69 thousand, implying a 51% drop.
In relation to the toll-spot figures, the authority reported that 13,479 vehicles departed on Route 5 North 8,501 on Route 68 13,398, Route 78 2,501 and Route CH 57 on Route 7, about 3,400 cars. Last year on the same date, only on Route 68, 104,000 vehicles left the city.
In this context, the Metropolitan Intendant, Felipe Guevara, reiterated the call on people to stay in their homes, not to leave the capital, to respect quarantines and above all to comply with the rules established by the health authority. “The vast majority of citizens are respecting the disposition of authority, which demonstrates the safeguarding for their health and also for others,” he said.
Regarding people who traveled to shore using airships, the Intendent said that the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics confirmed that there were three aircraft. “We have started the corresponding health summaries and the airspace is closed so it is no longer possible to transit in that way to or from the Metropolitan Region, unless they are state or emergency ships,” the Intendent said.
Finally, the regional authority reiterated the call for self-care and the measures that still govern the capital to prevent the spread of the virus. “We are emphatic in insisting that self-care is very important at the moment, so the neighbors who leave quarantine on Monday must comply with the instructions of the authority such as curfew and social estrangement,” he said.
