As an online panorama, Market Chile -Chilean film platform – will exhibit 9 short films directed by Patricio Guzmán and belonging to his award-winning works ‘Nostalgia of Light’ and ‘El Button de Nácar’.
The short films will be displayed from the IGTV platform of the @marketchile account, and will air every Friday at 7 a.m. from April 10 to June 5.
The pieces feature varied and outstanding characters such as: astronomers José Maza and María Teresa Ruiz, Judge Juan Guzmán, architect Miguel Lawner and archaeologist Alfredo Prieto.

There is a great deal, and this cycle is an opportunity to see in a short space of time works of great sensitivity and quality. For the director, Patricio Guzmán: “The shorts, moreover, have not seen much. They are characters that I have found in the process of making my films and that for structure reasons have not fit into the central story, but I decided to edit them because I was reluctant to lose them. They were good stories, so I chose the format of presenting them in small shorts. Because of that format they haven’t seen so much, and this is the perfect one for them to know.”

CHILE, TO A GALAXY OF PROBLEMS
Year 2010. 32 minutes.
Journalists, historians, lawyers, psychologists, try to explain what Chilean amnesia consists of with regard to the historical past. This is also the former commander-in-chief of the Army, Juan Emilio Cheyre, who participated in the coup that overthrew Salvador Allende in 1973.

ASTRONOMERS FROM MY NEIGHBORHOOD
Year 2010. 14 minutes.
In a beautiful neighborhood of Viña del Mar an amateur astronomer, Guillermo Fernández, builds for seven years a large dome equipped with an automatic telescope and all the instruments necessary to explore the cosmos aided by his wife. On the other hand, in a lost corner of Peñalolén another amateur, Carlos Contreras, explains how to build the centerpiece of a telescope (the mirror). The documentary offers the floor to these two space travelers. How do you access the stars without leaving the neighborhood?

A Chilean astronomer was the first to discover a “brown dwarf” moving throughout the universe. This finding requires extraordinary patience. She received the National Science Prize and became famous in the astronomical circles of the world. Her patience is the result of her two personal hobbies: she weeds wool tapestries and searches the beaches for the agates bringing the Pacific Ocean.

OSCAR SAA, THE STAR TECHNICIAN

Before astronomers open the observatory door, the technicians are already there to keep each of the instruments under the huge domes. There are dozens and dozens of people. They form a battalion of engineers who during the day are responsible for controlling and repairing the sophisticated telescopes on the Chilean soil (the most powerful on the planet).
This short documentary revolves around Atacama’s oldest and most popular technician: Oscar Saa.

YEAR 2015. 7 minutes
An important person who does not appear in the film is Judge Juan Guzmán. This magistrate is the only person who questioned and prosecuted dictator Pinochet. In addition, he is the first judge to investigate the release of prisoners into the sea.

ARCHITECT MIGUEL LAWNER
YEAR 2015. 10 minutes
Miguel Lawner was not thrown into the sea. He was locked up in a concentration camp, a real copy of the Nazi camps, on Dawson Island in Patagonia. Along with him, more than 900 workers and the 26 ministers of Allende’s government were locked up.

YEAR 2015. 9 minutes
A century before Pinochet threw political prisoners into the sea, Patagonia natives were eliminated by the arrival of the white man. The Indians were killed by Indian hunters or died from the diseases brought by the settlers. For millennia, the indians sailed the seas of Patagonia in fragile wooden canoes.

PEASANT ALEJANDRO BUSTOS
YEAR 2015. 8 minutes
40 years ago Alejandro Bustos was imprisoned by a gang of policemen and truckers from Paine, a small town south of Santiago. Alexander was locked up and beaten along with 5 other peasants. Afterwards, they were taken to a nearby canal where they were shot. Alexander managed to survive.
