translated from Spanish: Poll reveals 29% of 14- to 24-year-olds believe they won’t get Covid-19

Nearly 30 percent of young Chileans surveyed by the Ministry of Social Development believe that they normally do not get covid-19 coronaviruses.
The survey, conducted through the Undersecretariat of Children in 70 communes nationwide to young people and adolescents between the ages of 14 and 24, also notes that 98 percent perceive the Covid-19 crisis as serious, while 41 percent say adults exaggerate with the severity of Coronavirus.
In this regard, the Minister of Social Development, Sebastián Sichel, argued that “one of the main concerns of the ministry, in addition to health support and social support to families who are experiencing this crisis, has to do with the well-being of the Chilean family and how this crisis is living inside their home”.
“An important part of this survey is seeking to focus the strategy to improve home-to-home well-being for children and young people, and this survey allows us to see where we need to accelerate the strategy beyond health protection and obviously social assistance to many Chilean families,” Sichel told the Press from La Moneda.
For her part, the undersecretary of childhood, Carol Bown, commented that she is concerned about this data because while it is true that the risk of seriously ill or death is lower in young people, “that does not mean that they will not infect others who may be at greater risk. We want to make a call for solidarity, to think about others and to take care of each other, to take care of others.”
On the other hand, what stands out positively in the survey is the way teens manage anguish and stress, showing that 83% of young people value time with family. This coincides with another figure that shows us that 47% of young people plan to go see their grandparents when the crisis is over.
