Michoacán.- The Supreme Indigenous Council of Michoacán #CSIM, an autonomous and independent council constituted by authorities of 60 native communities, publicly denounced the Government of Michoacán in the indigenous peoples and communities, electorally uses the “Michoacán Alimenta” program and violates the collective rights of indigenous communities.
They stated that contrary to what the rules of operation of the “Food Plan” of the entity specify, in various indigenous communities they deliver food supports through political operators of the party in power, conditioned and in private houses, which violates the guidelines of the program. At the same time, they stated that for the elaboration, supervision and implementation of this public policy, they did not seek permits, nor did they consider the authorities of the communities, therefore violating the international and constitutional rights of indigenous peoples.
They finally announced that they will hold an international fundraiser through the “ma anchekorheta jarhoajperakueri parhajpenirhu (first international mutual aid campaign) for food and our forests”, requesting mutual assistance from p’urhépecha who live or work in the United States, as well as all those who can stand in solidarity with indigenous communities, to support with economic or in-kind resources, and to generate a communal and autonomous fund, which allows the delivery of basic food to indigenous non-electoral or for-profit communities.
The delivery of basic supplies will be carried out through the Heads of Tenure, Commissioners, Traditional Judges and Communal Councils, without political parties and directly.
