translated from Spanish: “He marked all of us who knew him”: Bachelet held street in tribute to Dr. Carlos Lorca

Former President Michelle Bachelet celebrated the change in the name of Santos Dumont Street in Independencia by Dr. Carlos Lorca Tobar.
The change was made in honor of the doctor of the University of Chile. He was also deputy, detained and disappeared on 25 June 1975, during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
According to T13, the former Representative argued that “Carlos Lorca marked all of us who knew him. As a young student, his example and teaching was key to my medical and political training. The commitment and loyalty of his principles came to a great place to stay in his daily work. The vocation for others was not discourse, it was unwavering surrender. That’s why this homage is so necessary.”
He added that “his torture and subsequent disappearance sought to undermine the capacity to resist the dictatorship and it is true that it was a very severe blow, but it would not prevent his example from inspiring thousands more in the years that followed. Less still could erase the deep footprint that Charles left behind. Two years earlier Dr. Lorca had been elected deputy of the nation.”
When he was arrested in 1975, Lorca was taken by agents of the National Intelligence Directorate (Dina) to the Villa Grimaldi torture center. His arrest took place alongside that of 11 other Socialist Party (PS) militants.
