translated from Spanish: Festival Cielos del Infinito promotes regional creation with premiere of the work “Ayayema: Fuego en la Fom”

Faced with the urgency of supporting local companies and artists that have been affected by the health crisis, the Festival Cielos del Infinito presents a virtual program of free activities that bet on the exploration of new formats and scenic languages, without losing sight of reflection and artistic quality. Parallel Scene seeks to contribute to the positioning of regional creators at the national level, promoting the different creative processes that accompany each work.
The unprecedented closure of the cultural chain as a whole, from creation to production, distribution, access and participation is a major blow to artists and cultural organizations.
“In the face of contingency, we find it essential to deepen the support for local artistic creation, generating collaborations with regional creators and creators, offering the possibility of mentoring (management, artistic curatorship and technical support) and international mentoring (Festivals, Creation Centers and Companies), designed as a measure of accompaniment and professionalization for the sector, with the aim that these works are in an exclusively regional and local focus of the festival”, says Antonio Altamirano, director of Cielos del Infinito.

Ayayema: Fire in foM
The first staging to be released in The Parallel Scene will be in conjunction with Teatro La Canalla and the work Ayayema: Fire in the FOM. The company is formed in 2010, in the city of Punta Arenas, and is characterized by forging a creative method that allows to represent the history and customs of Magellan, seeking to produce in the viewer a re-valorization of the historical identity of the territory.
With the dramaturgy of Iván Fernández, the work chronicles the events that occurred on July 20, 1920 in the working federation of Magellan, crossing it with the Kawésqar worldview through the myth of Ayayema, the spirit of evil. The work focuses on the problem of the difficulties of building and producing a work, in its entirety, through virtual platforms. Showing the discussions and reflections, on the part of the members of the company, it tries to incorporate data, narratives, illustrations and audiovisual resources into a creation that is a contribution to the recovery of the historical and territorial memories of the country.
“It’s a very powerful story for Magellan, a tragedy that is now just 100 years old. It is a cross between Ayayema, which was the burning of the FOM and the white man. We play with the myth, what happened at the time and what continues to happen in our country,” says Andrés Guzmán, actor of Teatro La Canalla.
The artistic team consists of Andrea Pereda Negroni, Andrea Guzman Soto, Ivan Fernández Vidal, Jorge Montalva Silva, Raika Bradasic Cardenas, Paulina Torres Cardenas and Jorge Perez Contreras.
Since 2008, the Festival of Arts Heavens of Infinity is held simultaneously by 8 communes of the Magellan region and Chilean Antarctica. In locations such as Puerto Williams, Porvenir, Puerto Edén, Puerto Natales, San Gregorio, Cerro Castillo, Cerro Sombrero and Punta Arenas, generating significant experiences that promote encounter, critical and reflective thinking through the exhibition of Theater, Circus, Music, Dance, Urban Art and Audiovisual.
