translated from Spanish: “No one assumes responsibility for lying to Chile”: Chahin will turn to the CMF for an investigation of the “catastrophic versions” on the 10% withdrawal

“It is not right that today no one assumes the responsibility of having lied to Chile.” In this way, DC President Fuad Chahín announced that he will turn to the Financial Market Commission (CMF) to investigate the impact on the economy of “catastrophic statements” by authorities, experts and technicians on the approval of the withdrawal of 10% of planned savings.
“Everything we were told about the country going to catch fire, that the stock market was going to collapse, that we would destroy the economy, that this was cheap populism, demagoguery, all those disqualifications for those who push these measures, the truth is that today they have been answered by reality itself,” Explained Chahin, according to Radio Bio Bio.
In this regard, the president of the DC took the opportunity to refer to the controversial statements of the Minister of Economy, Lucas Palacios, who admitted that the withdrawal of pension funds “has had a positive impact”, despite a declaration a month ago that if such a project was approved, Chile would become “a banana country”.
“It is the Minister of Economy (Palacios) himself who says that today this is having a positive impact on the economic revival. And I also believe that it will be in the generation of jobs too – because it is going to generate a virtuous circle – and it will moriger the fall of growth,” Chahin said.
The parliamentarian also emphasized that “it is not possible for opinions to be expressed here on the consequences of a measure, which have an impact on markets.”
“A lot of people, probably minority shareholders, fearing this supposed disaster to come, sold their shares, preferred to take the money on the mattress, because they were scared by this whole campaign of terror,” he added.
In this regard, Chahin argued that “no one assumes responsibility for having lied to Chile about the consequences of the 10% withdrawal”.
In the legislature’s view, the catastrophic statements about 10% “what they were looking for was to block this measure, which in the end has been the most direct, most massive, less bureaucracy and fastest measure.”
