translated from Spanish: Unit to transform Chile – El Mostrador

Much has been said about the unity of the opposition, but unfortunately we have focused little on those spaces and leaderships that are generating a real articulation of the forces of change around the constituent process. Today we can say that, beyond the challenge to traditional politics, the territory is long ago finding the foundations of the Broad Front, together with those of Worthy Chile, more independent, social organizations and progressive sectors, mainly socialist, with whom numerous activities were raised by the Apruebo and the Constitutional Convention.
Contrary to what is happening in the territory, or in other articulation spaces, such as Opposition Women or Julieta Kirkwood Feminist Banking, the directions of different political sectors within the opposition arc take as a priority the negotiation of electoral quotas, which seems to us secondary to the challenge of building a program of alternative to neoliberalism, making every effort to ensure that citizens continue to maintain constituent prominence.
We are at the right time to turn this way of doing politics, so typical of binominal and sexist culture, because it is no coincidence that in opposition parties there are only two female presidents. This means that traditional structures have to start giving way, giving space to those initiatives and people who really manage to build trust and articulate.
I am sure that there are experiences that allow us to affirm that we can generate a block that bets on a fairer Chile with a feminist perspective, we have already seen that we can work together with the social bases in the territories and that we can also influence, as happened in the struggle for parity, where to this day we maintain networks with parliamentarians and opposition heads , such as Maya Fernández, Camila Vallejo, or with the Network of Politologists led by Carolina Garrido.
The call we make is to articulate ourselves at all levels, where the left and progressive sectors of the opposition can meet, having the enormous task of promoting a program together with the citizens and candidacies that represent it. Without a doubt, if we are concrete these encounters, later on it will be much easier to agree on one or two lists that actually reflect the diversity with which we want to defeat the right.
If we take this path, we will be much more than the sum of parties and we will be able to reconnect politics with society. Beatriz Sánchez, Carmen Hertz and Carmen Frei have already given some signals and we have to collect them, we must leave out those who do not want a transformer block and that happens to give space to a articulation with contents, with social work.
