translated from Spanish: Oaxaca artisans denounce luxury brand for reselling their designs

Oaxacan artisan women who make up the Tixinda Purple Cooperative reported that a luxury brand called “Purple Mixteco” resells their garments and has taken photographs of their cooperative to say that artisans work in conjunction with the brand.
In a statement, the cooperative denied knowing those behind “Purple Mixteco”, which is defined as “a luxury Mexican brand that seeks the inclusion of indigenous peoples through fashion”.

But this, the cooperative says, is not the case, because they are actually “textile resellers from our region, who usurve the name and image of members of the cooperative to legitimize the itself”. An example of this is that “Purple Mixteco” has used photos of the cooperative president, Amada Sánchez, to say she works with them.
They said that on the “Purple Mixteco” website they have identified garments that were produced in the cooperative but no one informed them that they “would be exposed for resale as part of a ‘luxury brand’, nor were we asked for authorization.
They add that this raises the cost of their garments without a clear justification.

The cooperative alerted other craftsmen to take care of themselves and avoid falling victim to these practices and demanded that “Purple Mixtec” clarify the origin and authorship of their garments; that transparent the identity of its owners and their relationship with communities, as well as remuneration for the cooperative for the garments they have resold without their consent.
He also requested to remove photographs of the cooperative from his networks and website or on which members of the cooperative are displayed without prior authorization.
