The Government offered an account of the mega-elections so far, noting that it has so far been an “exemplary process”, and went ahead that the first results of constituents will be known after 20:00 hours.
“So far, this has been an exemplary process, where we had a relevant participation, yesterday about 40% of the people who had voted for the Plebiscite voted,” said Minister Spokesman of Government Jaime Bellolio at a press point.
Bellolio said that “without a doubt, this is going to be a night when the results are going to be until later, where the proxy, the vocals, the local bosses will have a great job.”
As for the order of the vote count, he detailed that it would begin with the constituents, followed by governors, mayors and finally councillors, and went ahead that the first results could be known “around 8 or 9 at night”.
“There is still a long day left, where people can approach their polling places. We’ve done everything in our power to make that happen,” he added.
Bellolio also highlighted the protection of the ballot boxes, noting that democracy is “strengthened”.
On the other hand, Minister Juan José Ossa argued that “the truth is that things happened as planned (…) it reflects that the decision to have done this vote in two days was a success and was also a success because it was a sign of confidence in many institutions in our country.”
